KEEP HUNSWORTH GREEN!

by Kath Pinnock on 27 April, 2016

This is the information that has been sent to local media about the growing campaign to KEEP HUNSWORTH GREEN and obviously also BROOKFIELDS.

HUNSWORTH SHOW OF FORCE TO KEEP GREEN BELT

Residents of Hunsworth village were out in force as part of their campaign to protect the Green Belt in their village.

Hundreds of residents have submitted comments to Kirklees Council about the Council’s draft Local Plan. The Local Plan, which allocates land for future development, has land for over 300 houses in the Green Belt on Merchant Fields in Hunsworth.

Local residents are rightly concerned about the loss of precious Green Belt land but also about the huge additional volume of traffic that would be joining the A58 just above Chain Bar at junction 26 on the M62. Air quality around Chain Bar is already poor more traffic will make matters worse.

Local schools are already full and there are no plans for even additional classrooms.

At the same time as allocating an additional 1,400 houses to the Cleckheaton area, Kirklees Council is making significant cutbacks to local services such as the demolition of the Sports Centre, Library opening hours slashed, and the advice service in the Town Hall closed.

This is just the start of the Hunsworth campaign to KEEP HUNSWORTH GREEN
