Where’s our Town Hall doors?

Town Hall doors 1015

Local residents are demanding to know why Labour-run Kirklees Council has failed to replace the automatic doors at the entrance to the Town Hall in Cleckheaton.

On January 15 2015 the Town Hall was ram raided. Both the very heavy wooden front doors and the inner automatic doors were smashed. The Council did a good job in repairing the wooden outer doors very quickly. No such speed with replacing the inner doors.

I have been lobbying the Council on a regular basis ever since January to get the doors replaced. I have had promises of action, but no action.

The Council is currently breaking the law as it is failing to provide the public with a disable friendly access.

Keeping the heavy wooden doors open in all weathers just means that those working at the reception desk are very cold. So that is not an answer.

To bring matters to a head, I am today,at a meeting of Council, asking the Labour Cabinet Member responsible to give an absolute commitment that the doors will be replaced.

In response the Cabinet member, was only able to commit to speaking with Council officers. We await the outcome but will persist with our determination to get our Town Hall doors replaced.
