Between us we thanked everyone who has worked so hard to demonstrate that this is a well-used and well-loved building. We were also able to use the latest statistics from the Council’s annual report of library usage. This showed that Cleckheaton issued 100,011 books in the last year which was only second after Huddersfield Library in the whole of Kirklees.
Cleckheaton Library also had the second highest attendance at events in the Library of 11,216 which was just 2,000 behing attendance at the much bigger Huddersfield Library.

Gary from the Friends group made a very good case for our Library when he spoke at the earlier Cabinet meeting. Together we have made a strong case for keeping our library where it is. However, the decision has yet to be made and we will keep vigilant and keep up the pressure until we know for certain that Cleckheaton Library is saved.
