Government refuse “Call-In” of Lower Blacup Planning Appeal

by Kath Pinnock on 15 January, 2014

Cleckheaton’s 3 Liberal Democrat councillors wrote to the Secretary of State responsible for planning issues, Eric Pickles MP, to ask him to “call-in” the planning appeal decision on the Lower Blacup site.
This is the letter:
Lower Blacup Call In let 1213

A “Call-In” allows the Secretary of State to re-consider wider issues than those of the planning appeal on an application for a specific site. We argued that the wider issues are that allowing planning permission on the Lower Blacup site will set a precedent for all the other Provisional Open Land sites across Kirklees. These included the ones that Conservative MPs in Dewsbury and Colne Valley were purportedly opposing in their areas.

The reply from the Secretary of State was:

Call-in response 211B – General Letter 18_12_2013

It is a great shame that the Secretary of State refused to allow a “Call-In”.
We did ask the two Kirklees Conservative MPs to support the “Call-In” but they have yet to reply to our email in December.
