More news on copper cable thefts

by Kath Pinnock on 13 July, 2011

I have had a meeting with the local Police and CE Electric, the company responsible for the sub-stations, about the theft of copper cable which is cutting the power to hundreds of households and businesses each time.

CE Electric’s advice is:

  • report any incident immediately to the police and to their 24 hour emergency line 0800 375 675
  • take great care where a sub-station has been broken into because there is a serious danger from any cables left dangling
  • power surges that are caused by a sudden disruption to supply can wreck electrical equipment. Computers and TVs are particulalry prone to damage. The advice is to turn off at the socket and unplug these devices at least until this spate of thefts is over.

Meanwhile, the police and CE Electric are increasing security in our area.
