Copper thieves pose threat to power supply

by Kath Pinnock on 11 July, 2011

Thieves have been stealing copper cable from electricity sub-stations in the Cleckheaton area in the last few weeks. The consequences are that houses and businesses supplied by the sub-station have no power for some hours. Electrical equipment can also be seriously damaged by a power surge when the cables are cut. Several households have had computers and expensive TVs wrecked. The Health Centre in Cleckheaton was affected by one theft which meant that the fridges lost power and valuable vaccines kept in them had to be thrown away.

If you live near a sub-station, be on the look out and report any suspicious incidents immediately to:

the Police on 01924 295357 or if a break in is actually happening then use the 999 number

or

CE Electric, who are responsible for the sub-stations, on 0800 375675 which is a 24 hour emergency number.
