Ofsted agree – Whitcliffe Mount is a GOOD school

by Kath Pinnock on 6 June, 2011

Whitcliffe Mount had its Ofsted inspection in May. The inspectors report was published last week and confirms what all those involved with the school knew: it is a “good, and improving, school”.

The Inspectors particularly praised the behaviour of the students and the quality of the curriculum which was described as excellent. Below is the opening paragraph of the Ofsted inspectors’ report:

Whitcliffe Mount.. is a good and improving college. Pastoral care is a strength and the college provides students with a safe and caring environment which promotes their personal development well. Behaviour is good and students have positive attitudes to their learning. Attainment is rising, as is attendance. As a result, the college is living up to its motto of ‘Achieve, Enjoy, and Celebrate’. Parents and carers are overwhelmingly supportive of the college and particularly appreciate the high-quality care and guidance which are provided for their children.

Achievement is good and since the last inspection results in national examinations at the end of Key Stage 4 have shown that standards of attainment have risen… In 2010 .. the proportion of students achieving five subjects at grades A* to C increased from 58% in 2009 to 79% in 2010, and the proportion achieving five subjects at grades A* to C, including English and mathematics, rose in the same two years from 37% to 53%.

The Ofsted result puts Whitcliffe Mount in the top half of all schools nationally and, as the report stated, WM will continue to improve.

It’s great news that the Cleckheaton area has such a very good school and one we can all be proud of.
