Petition for new specialist cancer unit at Dewsbury Hospital

I am dismayed that the pledge of a new world class treatment unit for cancers at Dewsbury Hospital has been broken by the Government.
Now is the time to put pressure on all political parties in the coming elections – local Council elections and the General Election. There is a simple survey on the left hand side of the web page. Please fill it in and let others know.

The consultation always said that there would have to be another decision making process to say whether or not the Strategic
Health Authority would allow capital to be spent at Dewsbury. That was never helpful for patients who were being consulted as
they took it in good faith that if the package of changes was deemed good for the area, then the package would prevail.
Proceeding piece-meal does indeed again make Kirklees’ users of Dewsbury feel like they are the poor relation. In the absence of major capital investment Dewsbury users need to know that their waiting times are the lowest and their quality of service the highest. They need to get
as much care as possible in or close to their home. And Dewsbury should retain its status as a vibrant District general Hospital.
