Last summer the NHS asked local people to support a plan that concentrated some specialist services at either Wakefield or Dewsbury hospitals. Under the plan all specialist children’s services are at Wakefield and, in return, Dewsbury would get a new world class cancer unit.Local people agreed to the plan. But now the Labour Government has broken that promise. Specialist children’s services will move to Wakefield from Dewsbury BUT Dewsbury will not get the cancer unit.I am dismayed that a pledge that was given in the consultation can be so easily broken. All of us will fight hard for the new cancer unit and for services to be kept at Dewsbury.
