Pothole Watch

by Kath Pinnock on 31 March, 2016

I know winter rain and frosts cause damage to our roads and that potholes always become more apparent at this time of year.
However, there seem to be even more potholed roads in the Cleckheaton area this year.

I have reported the following to Kirklees Council Highways.

Grange Road at junction with Whitcliffe Road
Serpentine Road – full length
Hillcrest Mount at junction with Scholes Lane and see the photo below
Potholes Hillcrest Mount 0316
Springfield Terrace, Scholes has several potholes
Meadowlands, Scholes see photo below

Northgate, Cleckheaton from Horncastle street to Whitcliffe Road
Brighton Terrace, Scholes see photo below
Potholes Brighton Terr 0316

And there are of course plenty more! Please let me know if these have not been repaired say by the middle of April. If you have a pothole to report you can either let me know or email Highways.Ross@kirklees.gov.uk

With reference to all the potholes in and around Scholes and Cleckheaton.. On a daily basis avoidance of any sort is impossible. Damage to cars and peoples backs as you are jarred every few feet (not miles).

Where is the millions of pound awarded to Kirklees to repair roads being spent? Is it just town centres? as we are on the outskirts of the council are we forgotten? it seems likely.

Hi Debbie, I totally agree with you about the state of the roads in Scholes.
If you can let me have the road names I will certainly try and get the repairs done.
To be fair to the Council, roads are mainly funded by the Government and the Government has slashed rod funding.
There was a report on Look North last week and an article in the Yorkshire Post that showed that
the Government had provided £4 million for potholes in the whole of Yorkshire when it was estimated that the need was
      nearer £400 million!
Anyway let me know where the potholes are and I’ll try and get them done.
